My Name Is X But They Call Me or "That's Not My Name" Trend refers to a TikTok trend set to The Ting Tings' song "That's Not My Name" where TikTokers, often celebrities and actors, showcase their various "roles" or nicknames over the sound, whether it be related to acting or day-to-day life. The trend took off on TikTok in January 2022 and attracted celebrities including Alicia Silverstone, Drew Barrymore, The Rock and Kevin Chamberlin among others.

Origin

It is unclear who started the trend. One of the earliest examples was uploaded to TikTok on January 15th, 2022 by TikToker[1] @goldenbash7 where they showcase their puppy's name then all the other names they call her over "That's Not My Name," gaining over 3.2 million views in three weeks (shown below).

Spread

The trend attracted the attention of celebrities on TikTok, who used it to showcase their various acting roles and what people might call them other than their own name. One of the first celebs to take part in the trend was Alicia Silverstone, known for her role in Clueless, who posted a version of the trend to TikTok[2] on January 19th, gaining over 1.1 million views in two weeks (shown below).

On January 24th, actress Drew Barrymore posted a video to TikTok[5] participating in the trend, gaining over 21.7 million views in a week (shown below, left). On January 29th, chef Gordon Ramsey posted[6] a version of the trend, gaining over 12.3 million views in five days (shown below, right).

On February 2nd, The Rock participated in the trend,[7] gaining over 22.3 million views in a day (shown below). On the same date, Seventeen Magazine[3] and Billboard[4] published articles about the trend.

On the same day, Alicia Silverstone appeared on TODAY for an interview about her participation in the trend, gaining over 12,600 views on YouTube[8] in under a day (shown below).
