My Pronouns Are USA refers to a viral video and audio clip featuring several American conservative politicians presenting their preferred pronouns in sarcastic jokes. The clip was uploaded to TikTok in February 2023 and in April a new version was posted to the platform adding eagle sounds after every politician states their pronouns. The sound went viral that same month in skits and a trend where users upload videos alongside friends to lip-dub the sound.

Origin

On February 16th, 2021, the TikTok^[1] account of the Comedy Central TV show The Daily Show uploaded a compilation video titled "Conservatives Have One Joke," showing American politicians using gender pronouns as the subject for sarcastic jokes. For example, American conservative political commentator Michelle Malkin says "My pronouns are U-S-A," during the 2019 Conservative Political Action Conference. The video (now deleted) also features Senator Ted Cruz saying "My pronouns are: kiss my ass," which garnered 4.4 million plays and 653,000 likes in four months.

Spread

A few months after the original video was posted on TikTok,^[2] on April 30th, 2023, user @saraadimaggio posted a new version of the sound, adding an eagle sound every time a politician presents their pronouns. Her video (seen below) amassed 561,000 plays and 11,000 likes in one month.

The sound became more popularized in May 2023, inspiring over 15,900 videos by May 19th. On May 4th, TikToker^[3] @notesther08 posted a video in the school bathroom lip-dubbing the sound alongside some friends, with one dressed as a bald eagle. The video (seen below, left) garnered 3.9 million plays and 1.2 million likes in two weeks. TikTok^[4] user @nawalz joined some friends to lip-dub (seen below, right) the sound while they were in a department store, garnering 339,000 plays and 54,300 likes in two weeks.

The sound also inspired parody videos on YouTube. For example, user @auggiethebaddie^[5] uploaded on May 7th, 2023, an animation video in which the characters are shouting "My pronouns are USA." The post (seen below) received 51,100 likes and 4,900 likes in two weeks.
