My Yè Is Different To Your Yè refers to a catchphrase that emerged from a viral video of rapper Osh This Side remixing Burna Boy's song "Yè." The video was first posted to Instagram by Osh This Side in 2018, featuring him singing the lyrics, "My yè is different to your yè, dripping in sauce, the drip-dripping so saucy."

Origin

On August 6th, 2018, Singer-Rapper Burna Boy released his track "Ye" on YouTube[1], gathering over 200 million views in the four years since (see below).



On October 29th, 2018, Osh This Side's official Instagram account posted a now deleted remix of the track.[2] The singer can be seen standing in a room with overhead lighting, wearing red shorts and a fleece jacket zipped up to his neck while gesturing with his hand towards the camera. A reupload of the original video was posted to YouTube[3] on August 31st, 2018 by FockSit Records. The upload has gathered over 100,000 views in four years (seen below).



Spread

Internet users soon began reposting Osh's Instagram upload alongside funny captions. On October 29th, 2018, Twitter[4] user @SunnyNine9 posted a tweet that read, "After adding “furthermore” “moreover” and “equally worthy of notice” to my essay 😊" The post gathered over 9,000 likes and 4,000 retweets (seen below).

On August 7th, 2022, the meme resurfaced on TikTok, with TikToker[5] @ps.manny posting the video alongside the caption, "Times were good when this video came out #myyeisdifferenttoyourye." The upload gathered 200,000 views and 20,000 likes in nearly one month (seen below).

The video and audio began being used to depict the way people have double standards. On August 25th, TikToker[6] @notnana._ posted Osh's video with a text overlay that read, "Me explaining to my friends why I can go back to my ex but they can't go back to theirs." The video gathered over 1.8 million plays and over 400,000 likes in nearly three weeks (seen below).
