As her tweet spread, other Twitter users parodied it by adding humorous details about NYC life or inventing unbelievable scenarios.

On June 7th, 2022, Twitter user @elisawine14^[1] posted, "I'm a 42 year old born and raised New Yorker. Never in my entire life have I felt the fear, tension, and anxiety I feel living in NYC right now. The city is like a ticking time bomb. Like everytime I step outside my apartment something bad could happen. It's scary to be here." The tweet gained over 530 retweets, 1,400 quote tweets and 3,000 likes in three days (shown below).

In the days following @elisawine14's read of New York City, Twitter users, particularly New Yorkers, began parodying it as a snowclone, altering some details in the original tweet for humorous ends. For example, on June 9th, 2022, Twitter user @JasonDashBailey^[2] posted a parody referencing the film The Warriors, gaining over 80 retweets and 1,600 likes in less than a day (shown below, left). User @HeheWaitWhut^[3] also went with a film reference in their parody, using 2002's Spider-Man (shown below, right).

Other prominent examples include a post by Twitter user @Srirachachau^[4] that gained over 80 retweets and 2,300 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below, left), and a post by @HeerJeet^[5] that gained over 18 retweets and 400 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).
