The "Nice try, Daniel" meme was created on the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Social Board on the popular gaming website, gamefaqs.com. A user who went by the online alias of "DanielDecadence" posted a message expressing his interests in homosexuality, especially that which centered around the playable character of Ike in SSBB.

In numerous posts, Daniel stated that he was a male who was in the process of getting a sex change. He said he wished to become a woman so people at his school could call him "Princess Daisy" (from Super Mario Bros. fame).

At other times, Daniel would post messages completely ignoring his previous posts, stating that he was, in fact, a female who loved video game men.

These two differing posts confused many message board users, but when Daniel finally posted a picture of himself indicating that, yes, he was a male, a random user stated, "Nice try, Daniel!"as a way to say that he was no longer fooling anyone.

The meme continued for years, and still continues to this day. DanielDecadence was officially banned from the website, but more aliases continued to pop up throughout the next few months. "DannyDecadence," "DecadenceDaniel," "DecadenzeDaniel," and "DanielDecad3nce" were just a few of the user names that continued to spawn.
