No Way Fag is a single panel art exploitable commonly featuring a character making obvious and clearly defined sexual advances towards another character who bluntly denies with the phrase, most frequently featuring male video game protagonists with little interest in the opposite sex.

Origin

The original instance was created by artist Plague of Gripes (also known by his animations for Super Best Friends Play) and uploaded to this Tumblr on November 6th, 2014.^[1] This version features Leon Kennedy and Ashley Graham, the respective main protagonist and main female support character from Resident Evil 4. The image was inspired by the final part of the game after Leon saved Ashley on a jetski, creating a bastardized version of Ashley's offer to Leon for "overtime" at her place and Leon's subsequent rejection.

Spread

The original version initially didn't manage to get much attention, getting only over 2,000 notes in the following 2.5 years. It was posted to the Two Best Friends Play subreddit^[4] on October 7th, 2015 where it gained 315 points. However, it wasn't until the latter half of 2016 that the image started gaining traction on /vg/ board of 4chan. In December of 2016, variations of "No Way Fag" in the style of Increasingly Verbose Memes began appearing on the /v/ board.^[5]

This caught the attention of Plague of Gripes. When he saw the image growing popular, he created a colored version the original image in reply to the various attempts by others to color it^[2] and created another version featuring Link and Midna from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.^[3]
