Nyan Cat vs. Tac Nayn or Nyan Cat vs. Evil Waffle Cat refers to a series of memes using a piece of art depicting Nyan Cat being chased by its reverse meme, Tac Nayn. The artwork was posted to DeviantArt by user jrbarker in August 2011. It then became the subject of object-labeling memes in late March 2025 in which Tac Nayn is labeled to represent an intrusive thought or bad urge, garnering viral spread to Instagram. The memes are often set to a sped-up version of the song "Hero" by Skyper.
Origin
On August 17th, 2011, DeviantArt[1] user jrbarker posted a piece of artwork that depicts a realistic version of Nyan Cat being chased by Tac Nayn. The art gained over 17,000 views and 470 favorites in 14 years.
On March 17th, 2025, TikToker[2] @iamaunicorn_xo posted a version of the image set to a sped-up version of "Hero" by Skyper that features the added caption, "how it feels having friends who are lowkey haters," garnering over 3.3 million views in two weeks.

The meme was further popularized on TikTok later in March 2025. On March 18th, 2025, Instagram[3] user uncrustable.memess reposted the original version of the meme, garnering over 68,000 likes in two weeks.
On March 25th, TikToker[4] @verlaiyn posted a version of the meme labeling Tac Nayn as the "sudden urge to pee," garnering over 4 million views in a week.
On March 27th, TikToker[5] @lacelacy posted a version of the meme using Tac Nayn as a representation of an intrusive thought about the old, cringeworthy posts you once made that you can't delete, garnering over 2.5 million views in five days. On March 29th, Instagram[6] user ms.kitt3n reposted @verlaiyn's version of the meme, garnering over 8,700 likes in three days.
On March 30th, 2025, TikToker[7] @nvmjuann posted a version of the meme that labels Tac Nayn as "Having no proof" and Nyan Cat as "Being right," garnering over 1.6 million views in two days. That same day, Redditor u/Master-Deer4317 posted a version of the meme to the subreddit /r/CalamityMod[8] that gained over 300 upvotes in two days.
On March 31st, Redditor u/Consistent-Air-708 posted an original version of the meme about the video game Armored Core to the subreddit /r/armoredcore,[9] garnering over 680 upvotes in under 24 hours.
