The video game Skylanders: Giants was first released on October 17th, 2012. The game features the antagonist Kaos, who at one point says the line, "Observe, my superior strategic mind at work (clip below).^[1]

On August 10th, 2019, Redditor ^[2] CartoonmationS posted the earliest known version of the meme, captioning an image of Kaos with the subtitle "Observe, my superior strategic mind at work" and the caption "When the electrician is having trouble with the electric box but you know how to make a restone stope watch in Mindcraft." The post received more than 5,600 points (9% upvoted) and 100 comments in less than one year (shown below).

Over the next year, the meme continued to be used on various websites and platforms. On December 19th, iFunny ^[3] user memes7331 shared a version with the caption "When the teacher starts to tell stories about her life so you begin asking questions to distract her from the test you're supposed to have." The post received more than 27,000 reactions and 260 comments in less than three months (shown below, left).

The meme, while used occasionally, returned in late February 2020. On February 27th, Redditor^[4] Kirb_Is_Cool shared a version under the caption "is adolf hitler the same person as hitler?" The post received more than 26,000 points (96% upvoted) and 190 comments in less than 24 hours (shown below, center). Additionally, that day, Redditor^[5] JohnnySux101 shared a variation reacting to the YouTube video "Why I Season My Cutting Board, NOT My Steak."
