Paper Bottle's Plastic Bottle Reveal is a two-pane image macro series featuring a person holding a bottle that reads "I am a paper bottle" in the first panel and the same bottle cut open to show a plastic bottle hidden inside the paper. Online, people use these images for memes about insincerity.

Origin

On April 5th, 2021, Facebook ^[1] user 박영선 posted the image of the Innisfree Serum "paper bottle" cut open to reveal its plastic interior. Their post translates, "nnisfree Serum I bought last year. I bought this for another product to make ′′ Plastic Minimize Paper Bottle ′′ and bought this. I'm curious about the inside after using all of them. I'm going to have a plastic bottle. Isn't it totally green wash scam? I was supposed to take a look at the consumer center in betrayal" (shown below).

Two days later, on April 7th, 2021, Twitter^[2] user @1TeresaAnderson tweeted the image with the caption, "Hello! I'm a #NetZero climate target!" The tweet received more than 47,000 likes and 6,000 retweets in less than two days (shown below, left). The following day, Twitter^[3] user @norbitofficial tweeted the image with the caption, "joe biden getting us back into the paris climate accord." The tweet received more than 39,000 likes and 2,900 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, center).

That day, Redditor jtal888 posted the image in the /r/2healthbars^[4] subreddit. The post received more than 13,000 points (95% upvoted) and 215 comments in less than 24 hours.

On April 9th, Redditor EnderWither07----- posted the image in the /r/memes^[5] subreddit with the caption, "I've changed." The post received more than 34,000 points (98% upvoted) and 145 comments in less than 24 hours (shown below, right). Additionally, that day, Redditor SPLICER55 shared the image on the /r/assholedesign^[6] subreddit, where it received more than 110,000 points (93% upvoted) and 1,600 comments in less than 24 hours.
