Agatha Nunes, also known as Afonsinha, is a transgender Brazilian content creator known for her ironic fandom that pokes fun at her. Nunes first began creating content in December 2018, gaining more popularity at the end of 2019 and early-2020.

Online History

On December 13th, 2018, Agatha Nunes made her first online appearance as a feature on her sister's YouTube[1] channel. The upload's title translates to "Calling Male Prostitutes Featuring Afonsinha," and the video follows the sisters commenting about their personal lives and transitions while prank-calling people. The video (seen below) garnered 48,000 views and 3,600 likes in five years.



One of the earliest memes about the content creator was posted on YouTube[2] by @lincon2124 on August 30th, 2019. The video (seen below) shows Agatha walking in slow motion and spitting at the camera, which garnered 15,600 views and 534 likes in four years.



Another early example of an ironic meme mocking Agatha was uploaded on Twitter[3] by @vituxor user on September 4th, 2019. The tweet compared a hurricane weather report with a still image of Agatha Nunes (seen below), receiving 5,100 likes and 1,100 retweets in four years.

The Agatha Nunes Case

On August 27th, 2020, a rumor was spread on TikTok[5] by user @aghatanunez, an ironic fan account of Agatha Nunes, insinuating that she was taken to an abandoned house and sacrificed for a satanic ritual. The video (seen below, left) garnered 3.2 million plays and 274,000 likes in one year. A few months later, the same user posted another fake TikTok[6] video of Agatha eating rats and planning to cook a dog. The video (seen below, right) garnered 28 million plays and 2.4 million likes in one year.

The rumor was popularized as the "caso Agatha Nunes" (English: "Agatha Nunes' case") on the video platform, and users continued increasing the lore behind the fake "found footage" videos. For example, on January 25th, 2023, TikTok[7] user @hourlyymj uploaded a video warning other people to run if they see someone that looks like Agatha Nunes. The post (seen below, left) garnered 1.3 million plays and 114,000 likes in six months. On October 6th, 2022, TikTok[8] user @mzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzm uploaded a montage video made to look like Agatha getting hit by an ambulance and dying, which garnered 1.7 million plays and 135,000 likes in one year.

On July 31st, 2022, a PrintScreen of a conversation with Agatha Nunes was edited into a slideshow video paired with the El Chavo Del 8 soundtrack. The screenshot (seen below) shows an Instagram message from Nunes saying "se você acha," which translates to "If you think so." The post was uploaded by Twitter[11] user @acervoataamo to be used as a sarcastic reaction meme in discussions online, garnering 118 likes and 26 retweets in a year.
