John Carmack is an American video game developer,computer programmer engineer and lead programmer on the games in Doom,Wolfenstein,Quake and Commander Keen series.
History
John Carmack was born in Shawnee Mission, Kansas in 1970.
In 1990 he created along with John Romero and others the first installment of the Commander Keen series,published by Apogee Software.
In 1991 he co-founded id Software.
Carmack has pioneered or popularized the use of many techniques in computer graphics such as "raycasting" for Hovertank 3-D, Catacomb 3-D, and Wolfenstein 3-D, "binary space partitioning" with Doom and "surface caching" for Quake.
In the 2000 he founded the Armadillo Aerospace after he became interested in rocketry.
In 2013 he left id Software to work full time on the Oculus Rift,his reason of his decision is because Zenimax didn't want to support it.
Reputation
He got a significant amount or praise from both the industry and the fans of his work.
He was ranked #10 by Time magazine for being one of the 50 most influential people in technology.
Inducted in the Walk of Game in 2006 and received 2 Emmy Awards for Science, Engineering and Technology.
In March 11th 2010 he was awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Game Developers Conference and in March 7th 2016 with a BAFTA Fellowship award for "work that has consistently been at the cutting edge of games and his technical expertise helping the future arrive that little bit faster".
During an interview with Japanese game developer, director and designer,Masahiro Sakurai regards him as "the father of FPS’s"
