About

Kmac2021, real name Kieran McLaughlin is a Scottish YouTuber and musician who became popular after several skits which parody heavy metal music and culture gained millions of views.

History

Kmac2021, real name Kieran McLaughlin,[1] launched his YouTube account on May 21st, 2008.[2] The earliest extant video on his channel is a parody video created in the Endorphin software, posted October 16th, 2008 (shown below, left). On May 6th, 2009, he posted a drum cover of "Imogens Puzzle Part 2" by metal band Psyopus (shown below, right).

Though his channel has been active since 2008, he did not begin growing popular on YouTube until 2017. His first video to gain over 1 million views was titled "When you bought an 8 string but the only song you know is Basket Case by Green Day." Posted June 22nd, 2017, the video shows him playing the riff to "Basket Case" by Green Day on an 8-string guitar, a guitar best suited for metal music, and occasionally hitting extremely low notes. The video gained over 4.8 million views (shown below, left). His next video, a similar skit, showed him playing "Blackbird" by the Beatles with occasional moments of death metal, gaining over 5.4 million views (shown below, right).

While most of his most popular videos feature jokes based on creative or incorrect covers and interpretations of popular songs, he has also done several sketches parodying metal culture. Some of these include "every metal band's studio video", which parodied self-important metal bands work in studios (shown below, left) and "gear review youtube channels after the area 51 raid", which gained over 260,000 views (shown below, right).
