Pope Signs a Lamborghini is a photoshop meme based on a photograph of Pope Francis signing a Lamborghini to auction the sports car to help Christian communities who had been attacked by ISIS.

Origin

On November 15th, 2017, Francis was photographed at the Vatican signing a Lamborghini Huracan donated to him by the sports car manufacturer. That day, the photograph was posted on the official Lamborghini Facebook[1] page (shown below).



Spread

On November 17th, 2017, Redditor thekermitsuicides posted a photoshopped version of the picture showing the Pope drawing a penis on the car (shown below). Within 24 hours, the post gained over 12,900 points (94% upvoted) and 199 comments on /r/MemeEconomy.[2]



Meanwhile, Redditor McJock submitted a photoshop of Francis writing "Microtransactions are the root of all evil" on the car to /r/dankmemes (shown below, left). Also on November 17th, Redditor papa_bear8866 posted an edit of the Pope writing "EA Sux" to /r/funny,[3] referencing the Star Wars Battlefront II Unlockable Heroes Controversy (shown below, right).
