PS5 Has No Games is a development of the 2007 PS3 Has No Games meme that is based on the premise that there is only a limited amount of video games which are exclusive to the 2020 console PlayStation 5. The meme was started by a parody version of Linkin Park's song "In the End" in March 2020 and and achieved virality as Notice How There Are No Games on PS5 format in July 2024 with memes pointing out that PlayStation owners have been doing anything except playing games on their console.

Origin

As of August 3rd, 2024, the PlayStation 5 gaming console had approximately 2,600 video games,^[1] out of which 15 games were exclusive to the console.^[2]

On March 26th, 2020, an anonymous 4chan user posted the first three lyrics of the parody song about the seeming lack of games on PlayStation 5 which would later in a thread on the /v/^[10] board (shown below). In the same thread, an anonymous user continued the song with six more lines of the song.^[11] The song is an edited version of "In the End" by Linkin Park. Users added more lyrics to the song in April and May 2024 until on May 9th, 2020, an anonymous user posted the most popular version of the song in /v/^[12] (shown below).

This version of the song saw multiple reposts in the following years both on 4chan and outside the imageboard. On May 18th, 2020, voice actor Chris Voiceman posted an audio of himself singing the song. On June 2nd, 2020, YouTube^[13] user SwagItUp uploaded the audio to the platform, where it garnered over 3.4 million views in four years. On December 19th, 2020, Chris Voiceman uploaded an extended version of the song to YouTube,^[14] where it garnered over 2.2 million views in four years (shown below).

On September 23rd, 2023, X^[3] user @mrpyo1 posted a video of a mam tearing up at a store after buying a PlayStation 5 console. On September 24th, 2024, X^[4] user @Bolverk15 captioned the post, "If you look closely, you can see that he didn't buy no games to go with it", implying that PlayStation 5 has no games to play. The post (shown below) received over 2,500 reposts and 77,000 likes in one year.

Later on September 24th, iFunny^[5] user ColtCaDaddy posted a screenshot of the post, which received over 3,600 smiles in one year.

On April 25th, 2024, X^[6] user @SonsOfWanarchy wrote about PS5 Has No Games meme being a remake of the older PS3 Has Not Games meme, with the post (shown below) garnering over 670 reposts and 10,000 likes in four months.

The "Notice How" phrasal format appeared in various memes about PlayStation 5 and its perceived lack of games in the following months, with several posts going viral. For example, on May 17th, 2024, X^[7] user @headfallsoff made a post that received over 1,700 reposts and 24,000 likes in three months (shown below, left). On June 15th, 2024, X^[8] user @qtarothought posted a meme that gained over 3,200 reposts and 43,000 likes in two months (shown below, right).

The phrasal format achieved higher popularity in late June and July 2024, when multiple posts based on it went viral on X / Twitter and other sites. For example, on June 20th, 2024, X^[9] user @SyntaxAero made a post that received over 6,100 reposts and 106,000 likes in two months (shown below).

"One Game" is a parody version of In the End by Linkin Park based on the PS5 Has No Games meme. The lyrics of the songs are changed to a story of a man who bought a PlayStation 5 console but quickly finds out that it has virtually no exclusive games to play.
