Quentin Tarantino Walking Around refers to a series of edited photographs of director Quentin Tarantino photoshopped into surroundings of a Russian apartment. The format gained popularity among Russian users on VK in early August 2019 and spread to Reddit, Twitter and other social networks in the following weeks.
Origin
On August 8th, 2019, @Yandex_Realty Twitter account posted a series of photoshops of director Quentin Tarantino looking around a Russian apartment,[1] based on the photographs taken during his walk around the Moscow Kremlin on August 6th, 2019.[2]
Spread
In the following days, Russian users on Twitter and VK reused the format for various jokes (examples shown below).[3][4] On August 12th, 2019, Memepedia reported on the meme.[5]
On August 11th, 2019, Redditor Artemkuz posted the earliest known English version of the meme,[6] with the post receiving over 24,000 upvotes in ten days (shown below).
In the following days, more notable memes based on the template appeared on Reddit and other online platforms.
