"Ram Ranch Guy" Grant MacDonald Incestuous Relationship With Nephew Rumor refers to an allegation that Grant MacDonald, the creator behind the notorious "Ram Ranch" meme song, was arrested in Toronto, Canada in early 2024 for allegedly having an incestuous relationship with his nephew, Canadian politician Shawn Driscoll, and leaked Driscoll's nude pictures on social media, including on Discord and Reddit. MacDonald has created a GoFundMe to fund his legal defense and claimed the accusations were part of a conspiracy by anti-vaxxers due to his support of vaccines during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Background

On January 4th, 2024, Grant MacDonald, the creator of "Ram Ranch," posted a link to a GoFundMe^[1] in which he claimed he was being persecuted by anti-vaxxers for supporting vaccines during the COVID-19 Pandemic and was fundraising for his legal defense.^[1] He did not say how he was being persecuted on the page.

On January 22nd, Redditor lordjaxon04 made a post in the /r/RAMRANCH^[3] subreddit including screenshots from what appeared to be a Discord group MacDonald is in where he alerts the group he is being arrested (example shown below, left). The post also includes a legal notice addressed to MacDonald from the lawyers of a man named Shawn Driscoll.

The notice tells MacDonald to cease all attempts to contact Driscoll or post about him on social media. It also says to cease and desist from "disseminating sexualized images and recordings of Driscoll" (shown below, right). The post characterizes Driscoll as MacDonald's nephew.

Of note, MacDonald has several songs directly referencing having sex with a man named Shawn Driscoll (examples shown below).

Grant previously uploaded many songs about an unspecified "Shawn", the first one being "Just a Redneck in Love" back in 2016. The song's release date according to Spotify is July 28, 2016, mere months after Grant's longtime partner Junius Jakob Fridfinnsson died^[9] on January 12th.

Alleged Prior Confession and Identity Of Shawn Driscoll

The "Ram Ranch Cowboy Fun" Discord server knew of MacDonald's relationship with his nephew as early as October 2020. The server previously thought Shawn was some sort of fictional character until Grant inexplicably started posting Shawn's last name, along with nude photographs.

Throughout late 2020 and early 2021, MacDonald gave a variety of justifications for having a relationship with his nephew. He claimed that "avunculate marriage" (historically, a marriage between an uncle and their niece) was "legal in France and Australia," and that it would be a great way for Shawn to acquire Grant's property in a "tax free inheritance."

MacDonald originally denied having a physical relationship with Driscoll, though he walked this claim back later.

While originally elusive to joining a voice chat to defend himself, MacDonald finally caved in to popular pressure and delivered a deranged speech popularly known as "Grant's confession" in February of 2021.

While the most iconic line is undoubtedly "It’s legal in fuckin’ France and Australia for an uncle to marry their fuckin’ niece," the speech has several other quotable parts. Grant compares himself to "redneck characters" in "Alabama; in the fuckin’ South… …with their fuckin’ nephews over a goddamn barrel," and describes how one can find "687 fuckin’ videos of an uncle fuckin’ his frat boy nephew" on pornographic websites. Grant is fiercely defensive of his conduct and work throughout the speech, describing how "my fuckin’ music is cutting-fuckin’-edge stuff" which is "going where maybe no music went before." He scoffs at the server's reaction to the relevations, saying "Just fuckin’ deal with it for fucks’ sakes" and "Is that all you gotta do is to make a person puke?"

On June 16th, 2021, a Reddit user with the handle GRANTMACDONALD, believed to be MacDonald, made a post to the /r/RamRanch subreddit^[5] that said LEGAL TO MARRY YOUR NEPHEW (shown below). In the thread, he linked^[6] to a site named "shawndriscoll.xxx," which purportedly hosted sexual images of Driscoll.

On July 9th, 2021, GRANTMACDONALD posted uncensored images of a male butt to the /r/RAMRANCH subreddit, titling the post "SHAWN DRISCOLL SLUTHOLE," though the post's content was deleted by mods. Copies of the original post exist on the WayBackMachine.

On July 11th, Redditor FootballKitchen2323 then made a post in the /r/RamRanch^[4] subreddit including a screenshot of a post allegedly written by Grant that says, "I use meth and rape shawn" (shown below).

The "Shawn Driscoll" mentioned in the lawsuit is a conservative Canadian politician. According to KnowYourMeme messages with a moderator of the Ram Ranch Discord, MacDonald regularly posted nudes of Driscoll on the server.

Developments

On January 23rd, 2024, Twitter / X user kenshirotism^[2] posted the same screenshots, writing, "The Ram Ranch guy got arrested for leaking his nephew's nudes. He's been in an incestuous relationship with his nephew for years." Their tweet gained over 2,600 retweets and 22,000 likes in one day (shown below).

Online, numerous users expressed shock at the allegations as they spread online. On January 24th, Twitter user @Sabuuchi^[7] posted an Oh That's Real Nice meme about the allegation, gaining over 30 retweets and 280 likes in hours (shown below, left). On January 23rd, Twitter user @DatingSims^[8] posted a shocked reaction GIF from an anime to the news, gaining over 15 retweets and 60 likes in one day (shown below, right).
