About

Revengeance Status refers to a series of bait-and-switch videos that end with a song or scene from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to serve as a nonsensical punchline. Over time, the videos started by showing a suggestive or sexual situation and as the video is about to get explicit, it transitions into a fight between Raiden and Senator Armstrong, often while "Standing Here I Realize" plays in the background.

Origin

Initially, "Revengeance Status" videos used the soundtrack from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance as a means to complete shitposts. On April 27th, 2021, YouTuber Goldenbucket uploaded a Babe Please Stop meme using a Revengeance song,[1] gaining over 111,000 views in one year (shown below).

Spread

Over the following year, "Revengeance Status" videos were largely shitposts that used Revengeance songs as the punchline. For example, on January 5th, 2022, YouTuber @EtSl33py posted "Standing Here I Realize" over a cartoon, gaining over 1.7 million views in four months (shown below, left). On February 23rd, YouTuber TheBlueLight posted an example comparing girls' and boys' workout goals, with "Standing Here I Realize" serving as boys' goals. The video gained over 1.6 million views in three months (shown below, right).

"Revengeance Status" videos began becoming sexual bait-and-switch memes starting in early spring 2022. On March 20th, YouTuber MarlonVids2 uploaded a Bunny Milkies meme that had Senator Armstrong emerge from the chest of the bunny character, gaining over 1.3 million views in six weeks. This became a common trope in future examples of the meme. On April 30th, YouTuber shumm uploaded a "Revengeance Status" meme using a scene from My Dress-Up Darling, gaining over 230,000 views in three days (shown below, right).
