RiceGum "Decision Day" or Ricegum "The Decision," also known as People With Great Taste When Asked To Pick The Best X Of All Time, is an exploitable meme format based on an image of content creator RiceGum standing in front of four hats on a table labeled "the decision July 5th," each representing a different video sharing or streaming site, specifically Twitch, Rumble, Kick and YouTube respectively. The post was made to promote the announcement of which streaming service RiceGum would sign a contract with. It became the subject of memes shortly after it was posted in July 2023, including photoshops.

Origin

On July 4th, 2023, RiceGum made a post on X^[1] reading, "Which hat?" over an image of himself standing over four hats, each hat representing Twitch, Rumble, Kick, and YouTube respectively. The hats sit on a table labeled, "the decision July 5th." The post gained over 46,000 likes and 1,600 reposts in two years.

The post inspired memes over the following days. One of the earliest known memes was posted on July 8th, 2023 as a quote-reply to the post by X^[2] user @DeMickyD, who photoshopped RiceGum's head onto an Elder Scrolls: Skyrim character under the caption, "Enter the Keep with Hadvor or Ralof?" garnering over 1,500 likes in two years.

On July 5th, 2023, it was reported that RiceGum chose to sign a deal with Rumble, then quit streaming in 2024.^[3] On September 27th, 2024, Redditor u/imnotaplanetatall posted an edit of the image to /r/rateyourmusic^[4] asking which album that was releasing on October 4th they'd listen to first, garnering over 200 upvotes in six months.

On December 8th, TikToker^[5] @chasenheem posted a video parodying the post captioned, "When you talking to 3 girls at once and they all want a relationship," garnering over 540,000 views in three months.

On December 12th, Instagram^[6] user yeatlover_bs posted a version of the meme referencing the video game Brawl Stars, garnering over 5,100 likes in three months.

On March 3rd, 2025, Redditor u/Flimsy_Sample185 made a post titled "people with great music taste when asked to pick the best song of all time" to /r/playboicarti,^[7] sharing a photoshop of the image showing RiceGum looking at "Not Like Us" by Kendrick Lamar, "Carnival" by Kanye West, Packgod or "FEIN" by Playboi Carti," garnering over 690 upvotes in a day. X^[8] user @shitfartnigga07 reposted a condensed version of the meme that day, garnering over 500 likes in a day.

Later that day, X^[9] user @fyridk posted a version of the meme about choosing the best of a selection of popular X accounts, garnering over 8,800 likes and 400 reposts in a day.
