"The Suitcase," episode 7 of Season 4 of the hit TV drama Mad Men, aired on Sunday, September 5, 2010. In the episode, as the result of a series of events we won't disclose at the risk of giving away any spoilers, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) is shown breaking into heavy sobs. The highly emotionally charged episode gained strong critical acclaim, particularly for the image of the usually unflappable, enigmatic Draper suddenly exposing deep sadness and pain.

It did not take long – less than a week, in fact – for the scene to become a meme, as a still of Don Draper crying was inserted into sad situations, mostly courtesy of saddondraper.tumblr.com:
