About

Shut the Fuck Up Friday refers to a viral video by the law firm Pot Brothers, in which they instruct people to not speak to the police during raids of legal cannabis dispensaries. The law firm uses the phrase "Shut the Fuck Up Friday," a parody of online holidays like Flashback Friday to repeat the advice in other scenarios.

Origin

On January 3rd, 2019, law firm Pot Brothers at Law, who specialize in cannabis-related legal disputes, published the video "One MINUTE TIP of the day." In the video, Marc Wasserman, one of the attorneys, instructs viewers to abide by "Shut the Fuck Up Friday" and to not say anything to police when approached.[1] The video received more than 1.7 million views in less than three years (shown below).

Precursor

Before the video spread, the Pot Brothers posted other Shut the Fuck Up Friday videos. They posted one of the earliest on November 3rd, 2017 in the video "Pot Brothers at Law One minute tip of the day, which received more than 38,000 views in less than four years (shown below).

Spread

The following day, on January 4th, 2019, Redditor [2] LosingWeekends posted the video in the /r/videos subreddit, where it received more than 39,000 points (84% upvoted) and 2,100 comments in less than three years.

Over the next few years, the Pot Brothers continued to post variations of Shut the Fuck Up Friday and sometimes referred to the lesson as "The Script" (examples below).
