About

Lurkmore.to, sometimes referred to as "Russian Lurkmore", is a Russian-language satirical meme and internet culture reference wiki.

History

The site was started in 2007, on the 30th of July as a substitute for Wikipedia in the coverage of memes[3] and imageboard/chan-related topics.

Features

Lurkmore allows users to write about sites and internet memes as a reference for others. One of the features that is unique about Lurkmore, is the ability to edit without signing up, anonymously, without an IP Address showing like it would on sites like Wikipedia or Wikia. However, users editing the wiki anonymously cannot edit semi-protected pages or upload images.[6]

Highlights

Lurkmore.to was mentioned in various[8] news[7] outlets in late 2012 after the site was blacklisted and blocked because of pages/articles mentioning drugs. The site's IP Address was blacklisted in November of 2012[4] as part of the Internet Restriction Bill[1] in Russia, but this was countered by the site getting a new IP Address.[5]

Traffic

The site has a pagerank of 143 in Russia[2], and according to Alexa[2], is the 2,471st most visited site in the world.
