Slime Eels Car, also known as Car Covered in Cum, is a photograph of a wrecked car covered in white hagfish slime. Taken in Oregon in 2017 after a truck carrying a delivery of hagfish overturned on a highway, the image achieved virality in 2023 as it became a subject of caption memes, mainly due to the slime visually resembling semen.

Origin

On July 13th, 2017, Oregon State Police posted images of a car crash on U.S. Route 101 where a truck carrying a load of hagfish, also known as slime eels and snot snakes, overturned. The post,^[1] which included images of a wrecked car covered in hagfish slime, received over 1,000 reposts and 1,100 likes on X in six years (post and image shown below, left and right).

Spread

On July 14th, 2017, Imgur^[2] user elevengoldfish posted the earliest found meme based on the image, captioning it "When your girlfriend comes home from vacation after two weeks…" The post (shown below) received 1,600 views in six years.

The image did not see viral spread until late August 2023. On August 23rd, 2023, X^[3] user @m0sstrx posted the photograph, writing, "optimus prime when im done w/ him ……" The post (shown below) received over 8,300 reposts and 96,200 likes in one week.

The post was followed by more similar memes built upon the premise that the car was covered in semen and not slime due to their visual similarity, with several notable posts referencing the Dragon Having Sex With Cars meme.
