Solar Panel Salesman Doesn't Say Neighbor, also known as Racist Solar Panel Salesman or Solar Panel Salesman Says The N-word, refers to a viral video of a door-to-door solar panel salesman appearing to accidentally say the N-word instead of saying the word "neighbor." He was recorded via a Vivint camera on a Houston, Texas man's front door. After being uploaded to social media via Instagram in September 2022, the solar panel salesman became a trending topic on Twitter and TikTok with many imagining him on his first day of work, among other humorous scenarios.

Origin

On September 25th, 2022, the Instagram[1] account moorinformation posted a video that was anonymously submitted by a Houston, Texas resident. In the video, a door-to-door salesman selling solar panels walked onto the balcony of an apartment. Moments later, he quickly misspoke in his sales pitch by saying the plural version of the N-word instead of saying the word "neighbors." Over the course of 10 days, the video received roughly 9,300 likes (shown below).

Later on September 25th, 2022, Twitter[2] user DFiosa reposted the video to the platform, claiming that the salesman was employed at Peak Energy in Texas. DFiosa's video received roughly 57,400 views in 10 days, mostly through reposts[3] of her video which earned more engagement. Roughly six hours later on September 25th, Twitter[4] user josephlamisstx tweeted his own repost of the video, gaining roughly 184,200 likes and 15.4 million views in 10 days (shown below).


In the replies to josephlamisstx's tweet, multiple Twitter users offered memetic reactions. For instance, on September 26th, 2022, Twitter[5] user FrooVids tweeted the YOU WHAT!?! video from SpongeBob with a caption related to his boss' imagined reaction, gaining roughly 24,700 likes in nine days (shown below).


On September 29th, 2022, TikToker[6] dro_knows posted a video in which he labeled the man "Worst Salesman Ever" and talked about the viral video. The TikTok received roughly 204,300 plays and 16,100 likes in six days (shown below, left). Thereafter, humorous videos surfaced on TikTok about the solar panel salesman. For instance, on October 1st, 2022, TikToker[7] graemenesbit captioned the Homelander Gets Applause video from The Boys with, "POV: The Solar Panel salesman actually makes the sale," gaining roughly 32,200 plays and 750 likes in four days (shown below, right).
