Origin

On July 4th, 2021, Twitter^[1] account @imnormalnow tweeted the first known mentioning of the phrase (shown below). The image used for the tweet is an M. C Escher painting called Eye Colour.^[2] The tweet gained roughly 139,500 likes and 11,600 retweets over the course of one month.

Spread

On July 8th, 2021, Instagram account @on_a_downward_spiral posted a screenshot of the tweet (shown below on left)^[3] and gained roughly 66,800 likes over the course of one month. On July 10th, 2021, the same screenshot was featured on iFunny (shown below on right)^[4] and gained roughly 66,000 smiles over the course of one month.

Re-edits and remixes began posting to Twitter in mid-July 2021. For example, Twitter^[5] user @soundgarrden shared a variant to their feed (shown below, left), which was posted on July 15th, 2021. On July 24th, 2021, another tweet by Twitter^[6] user @swermyyy gained roughly 6,000 likes over the course of roughly two weeks with an edited version of the phrase saying, "spongebob episodes be silly as hell then they got a frame like this," (shown below on right).

More remixes and mentionings of the phrase with varying spellings like, "SpongeBob episodes be silly as hell then have one shot like this," began floating around Twitter, Instagram and iFunny going into August 2021.
