About
#StrandedBae is a hashtag used to discuss the story of Twitter user @__iamqueenk being stranded at the airport by fellow Twitter user @KashMoneyKanee after visiting him on Valentine's Day.
Origin
On February 19th, 2017, @__iamqueenk began a thread on Twitter telling the story of how @KashMoneyKanee left her stranded at the airport after visiting him in Washington D.C.[1] According to her, @KashMoneyKanee had paid for her trip to Washington D.C. for Valentine's Day and had made clear that he was very romantically interested in her, going so far as to print a picture of her face on a shirt. After a nice time together, @__iamqueenk missed her flight home, and texted @KashMoneyKanee asking to pick her up from the airport. After saying he would, he doesn't show up, leaving her stranded at the airport. At five in the morning, she showed up at his apartment, where he was with another woman, and @KashMoneyKanee called the police to take @__iamqueenk away.
Spread
After @__iamqueenk posted her story to Twitter, @KashMoneyKanee[2] posted his side of the story. In his version, he points out several details @__iamqueenk omitted. For example, @__iamqueenk was evicted from her apartment during the trip and also flew to Washington D.C. without any money. In @KashMoneyKanee's version of the events, @__iamqueenk was clearly looking to scam him into letting her stay with him for free. It got to the point where @__iamqueenk's mother began chiming in, DM-ing @KashMoneyKee on her daughter's behalf.
The entire ordeal made #StrandedBae trend on February 20th, as multiple people chimed in and followed the ordeal. A parody account for a rat that supposedly lived in @KashMoneyKee's apartment appeared and got into a Twitter argument with @__iamqueenk's mother.[4]
@KashMoneyKee's story was later supported by several other people who had had similar experiences with @__iamqueenk, and those people told their stories on Twitter. The compilation of those stories made Twitter Moments.[3]
The story was covered by The Daily Dot,[5] The Washington Post,[6] Complex,[7] and more.
