(Stupid, Emo, Gay) refers to an exploitable image macro template that compares "society's oppinion of music" by contrasting the lyrics of two artists. In the original image, "society" thinks the lyrics of Nicki Minaj's "Stupid Hoe" are amazing, while the lyrics to "Carolyn" by Black Veil Brides are "stupid, emo, gay." In the exploitables, the lyrics and artists represented are changed.
On September 26th, 2013, Facebook page Emo Is Love posted an image demonstrating "Society's oppinion of music," contrasting the lyrics of Nicki Minaj's "Stupid Hoe," which "society" thinks are "amazing," to the lyrics of "Carolyn" by Black Veil Brides, which "society" deems "stupid, emo, gay." The post is meant to imply that the Black Veil Brides lyrics are deep and meaningful but don't receive the proper respect from the general public. The post gained over 2,600 likes (shown below).
In November of 2018, the image was mockingly reposted to /r/im14andthisisdeep. Starting in 2020, the image started seeing exploitable parodies. On September 11th, 2020, Redditor MennyT posted an example replacing Black Veil Brides with System of a Down to /r/SystemOfADown, gaining over 430 points (shown below, left). On December 14th, Redditor owen-burbon posted an example using Neil Cicierega to /r/lemondemon, gaining over 440 points (shown below, right).
