About
Corpse Party (Japanese: コープスパーティー) is a Japanese series of survival horror games made for PC-9801, PC, PSP, and PS Vita. The story revolves around a group of teenagers who preform a ritual called Sachiko Ever After, but the ritual drops them into a parallel universe where a school called Heavenly Host, which was demolished in the 1960's, still exists, is haunted, and is surrounded by endless forest. If you die in the school, there is no Heaven, no Nirvana, you shall simply feel the pain of death forever.
Origin
The series started as a horror RPG called Corpse-Party on the PC-98 platform, the combat is notably similar to the gameplay of the Mother series, a comparison is below.
Left: Earthbound | Right: Corpse-Party
Remake
In 2008, the game was remade and released for the PC platform in Japan as Corpse Party, with all new characters, a new story, and full voice acting, containing over 5000 voice clips. The game has 9 main characters, listed with images of them below.

Remake of the Remake
In 2011, the game was remade again for the PSP, with higher quality graphics and a new soundtrack, this is where the biggest amount of the game's popularity came from, due to a western release in mainstream retail stores. The game received somewhat positive ratings from critics, and even more positive reviews from the fan base.
Pre-Sequel
In 2011, a "Pre-Sequel", if you will, was released called Corpse Party: Book of Shadows (コープスパーティー Book of Shadows Kōpusu Pātī Bukku obu Shadōzu), the game plays much differently from the previous ones, as it abandons the birds eye view and goes for point and click gameplay. The game has a darkening meter, similar to the sanity meter of Amnesia: The Dark Decent, if the player stares at a corpse long enough, the character they play as will slowly go insane.
Anime Adaption
In 2013, an OVA based on Corpse Party was released, called Corpse Party: Tortured Souls -The Curse of Tortured Souls- (コープスパーティー Tortured Souls ―暴虐された魂の呪叫― Kōpusu Pātī Tōchādo Sōruzu -Bōgyakusareta Tamashī no Jukkyō-)
, consisting of 4 episodes. The show is often noted for the gruesome, graphic violence it contains, and has created controversy in the fandom, because of the deaths of most of the major characters, a good amount of which were not in the game or manga.
Fandom
The games have gained a large following over the years, fans drawing art, writing stories, and even creating their own games based on the series. Eventually, popular youtubers like Cryaotic, Pewdiepie, and Markplier played Corpse Party.
Naomi X Seiko
A popular ship in the fandom consisting of the characters Naomi Nakashima and Seiko Shinohara, the latter of the two is a lesbian, and has a crush on Naomi, who is somewhat oblivious to this until later in the game. The ship has been widely accepted in the fanbase as an OTP, or, "one true pairing".
Yuuya Kizami
Yuuya Kizami is an antagonist in the game, often seen by women as "Sexy" and "Dreamy" even though he's a complete psychopath.
