Death Stranding 2 or Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is the upcoming creation by Hideo Kojima as a sequel to Death Stranding, starring the same cast plus Elle Fanning. The game is expected to be released in 2025 exclusively on PS5.

Origin

Announced at The Game Awards produced and hosted by Geoff Keighley, on December 8th, 2022. The premiere reveal^[1] included the new character played by Elle Fanning, as well as showed an older version of Norman Reedus's character Sam 'Porter' Bridges (shown below).

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach Trailer Premiere

On January 31st, 2024, a new trailer of the game was announced at Sony's State Of Play^[2] livestream. The video (shown below) also revealed the game's official title "Death Stranding 2: On The Beach," amassing over 91,000 views and 11,000 likes in just an hour.

Online Reaction

Hideo Kojima's anticipated sequel has been a recurring hot topic on social media, as fans are trying to guess the story's plot and what new gameplay features Kojima will introduce. For example, as the extended trailer premiered on January 31st, 2024, X^[3] user @saltydkdan edited the trailer with a Breaking Bad scene after the main character appears covered in blue ink. The post (shown below) received over 13,500 views and 568 likes in an hour.

Plot Speculation

As the name of the giant ship that comes out of the goo implies, the game will be focused on creating 'Drawbridges', with the name of the ship visibly being 'Magellan', named after Ferdinand Magellan, famous for crossing the oceans, meaning a potential key plot point could be the connecting of the world, not just America.

Fan Art

Although the game will only be released somewhere in 2025, fans are already posting fan art based on the trailers available. For instance, on December 13th, 2022, Deviant Art^[4] user @Ashesfordayz posted a drawing of one of the game's villains (shown below, left), amassing more than 6,600 views and 67 favorites in two years. On August 23rd, 2023, Deviant Art^[5] user @javadjablaghi uploaded a fanmade poster of the sequel (shown below, right), which amassed roughly 260 views and 3 favorites in six months.
