Good Pillow is a pillow manufacturer created by gun control advocate David Hogg and William LeGate. The company, which started as a joke on Twitter between LeGate and Hogg, is part of their criticism of Mike Lindell, also known as the "My Pillow Guy," a conspiracy theories and the CEO of My Pillow, Inc., who in early 2021 became the subject of controversy due to his unsubstantiated claims that the 2020 United States Presidential Election was fraudulent.

History

On February 1st, 2021, William LeGate tweeted, ^[1] "I'm considering launching a MyPillow competitor with better made pillows, made in America, and at a fraction of the price. The company would use funds to support democratic & social causes. Thoughts??" The tweet received more than 35,000 likes and 5,000 retweets in less than two weeks. Hogg responded to the tweet, "Call it our pillow cause were all 'socialists'" (shown below).

Over the next few days, Hogg and LeGate continued to share their plans for the company on Twitter. On February 4th, Hogg tweeted,^[2] ".@williamlegate and I are going to prove that progressives can make a better pillow, run a better business and help make the world a better place while doing it." The tweet received more than 22,000 likes and 4,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below, left).

That day, he tweeted,^[3] "Yes- @williamlegate and I really are starting a pillow company." The tweet received more than 7,000 likes and 800 retweets in less than one week (shown below, right).

Following the tweet, Hogg also explained some of the basic tenants and beliefs of the company. He wrote, "Key parts of the company -Union made in America to create good jobs that support American families. -Have an emphasis on supporting progressive causes -Not attempt a white supremacist overthrow of the United States government So you can sleep at night Relieved face." The tweet received more than 3,500 likes and 500 retweets in less than one week (shown below, right).

On February 9th, Hogg announced the name of the company and the launching of the company website. The company Good Pillow claims to be "the premier pillow with a purpose." He wrote,^[4] "We have announced the name of the company it's called #GoodPillow and you can sign up to be notified when preorder is available go to." The tweet received more than 12,000 likes and 4,000 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below).

In the press release, the company explained its ethos. They wrote:^[5]

- Good Pillow pledges to support charitable organizations working to improve the lives of everyday Americans & people across the world.
- Good Pillow pledges to have an active dialogue with its customers regarding which causes it will allocate a percentage of profits to.

- Good Pillow pledges to employ well-paid, unionized manufacturers.
- Good Pillow pledges to be Made in America.
- Good Pillow pledges to place a strong emphasis on hiring those who have traditionally struggled with seeking employment, including: veterans, refugees, people with disabilities, and people who were formerly incarcerated.
- Good Pillow pledges to fill our Board of Directors with people who actually represent America. We’ve seen companies and leaders rely on symbolic gestures as a substitute for real change. We commit to ensuring our actions demonstrate the depth of our commitment.
- Good Pillow pledges to appoint a Chief Progressive Officer to its executive team, whose sole purpose is to ensure we stay true to our vision.
