Shipwrecked 64 is an indie horror video game with ARG elements by Squeaks D'Corgeh portrayed as a lost Nintendo 64 game in which you play as a beaver, Bucky, who gets shipwrecked on an island with is crew and must find a way to escape. The first version of the game was released in August 2022 with an overhauled version of the game being released on Steam in January 2024. The game garnered a notable fanbase between 2022 and 2024, inspiring fan content including fan art, let's plays and memes. The game is based on the "Broadside Beach" ARG.

History

Shipwrecked 64 is based on the ARG "Broadside Beach," a horror alternate reality game about a fictional animation company called Broadside Animation with a beaver mascot named Bucky and their theme park Broadside Beach, which was closed following a series of murders.[6]

Shipwrecked 64 was first released by Squeaks D'Corgeh on Itch.io[1] on August 15th, 2022. Shipwrecked is a 3D platforming horror game in which the player controls a beaver, Bucky, who has been stranded on a mysterious island along with his crew and must find a way to escape. The island is controlled by wolves who take the crewmates captive and make them work for them. The player takes part in a variety of minigames as they explore the island, with scary imagery, twists and lore appearing throughout. The game features multiple endings and is presented as a lost Nintendo 64 game that was pulled three days after launch after becoming the subject of complaints.

An early version of the game was released on July 15th, 2022. The full game's release date was announced on D'Corgeh's YouTube[2] channel on July 15th, garnering over 10,000 views in two years (shown below).

In July 2022, the game became the subject of Let's Play videos on YouTube, including a July 26th video by YouTuber[3]
SuperHorrorBro, garnering over 234,000 views in two years (shown below). On January 4th, 2024, an overhauled version of the game was released on Steam,[4] featuring new content.

Online Presence

Shipwrecked 64 inspired numerous works of fan content following its release in 2022, seeing a boost in popularity with the overhauled version's release in January 2024. On January 22nd, 2024, X[5] user @gildaha_m posted an animation setting a clip of Gordon Ramsey to one of the character's from the game, garnering over 1,400 likes in a week (shown below).

On January 23rd, YouTuber[7] pappo posted a video playing through_Shipwrecked 64_ and discussing the Broadside Beach ARG, garnering over 264,000 views in a week (shown below, left). On January 24th, YouTuber[8] GTLive posted a Let's Play that gained over 230,000 views in five days (shown below, right).
