Ted TV Series is an American comedy television series created by Seth MacFarlane based on the 2012 movie of the same name. The show premiered exclusively on the Peacock streaming service in early January 2024, quickly amassing a new fanbase, who shared clips and fan edits of the show on TikTok and Twitter.
History
The original Ted movie premiered in theaters on January 29th, 2012, and tells the story of John Bennett, a Boston native whose childhood wish brings his teddy bear friend Ted to life. A trailer for the movie was posted on YouTube[1] on April 27th, 2012, amassing over 909,000 views and 6,500 likes in 12 years. (shown below)
On November 29th, 2023, the creator of the movie Seth MacFarlane announced that a prequel TV series about Ted was in development and set to premiere in January 2024. The show would focus on the early life of a sentient teddy bear toy named Ted, as he lives with John Bennett and his family in Framingham, Massachusetts. A trailer was also posted on YouTube[2] by @peacock (shown below), amassing more than 2.7 million views and 82,000 likes in three months.
Reception
The show premiered on January 11th, 2024, with mixed reviews with critics praising the casting, CGI, and performances. The show has a 62% approval rating with an average rating of 6.7/10, based on 21 critic reviews on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.[3]
Online Presence
The TV series quickly amassed a new fanbase on TikTok, as people began to share fan edits and clips of funny scenes from the show. For instance, on January 18th, 2024, TikTok[4] user @supes shared a video of his reaction to watching a scene from the Ted TV series (shown below, left), amassing roughly 2.5 million plays and 352,000 likes in a day. On January 15th, 2024, TikTok[5] user @kels_koch uploaded a different clip of the show in which the stuffed bear debates with a priest about Jesus' origins being similar to his own (shown below, right), which garnered over 2.8 million plays and 406,000 likes in five days.
