The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience is a visual album released by The Lonely Island surprise-released on Netflix on May 23rd, 2019. The album is a parody imagining if Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco, two former Oakland Athletics known as "The Bash Brothers," made a rap album in 1988.
History
On May 22nd, The Lonely Island announced a "visual poem" would release on Netflix at midnight of that day.[1]

At midnight, they released The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience, a video album in which Andy Samberg plays former Oakland Athletic Jose Canseco and Akiva Schaffer plays Canseco's teammate Mark McGwire. Guest stars include HAIM, Sia, and Maya Rudolph. Two snippets from the film were uploaded to YouTube that night: "Uniform On" (shown below, left) and "Oakland Nights" (shown below, right). The songs were also released on Spotify that day.[2]

The visual album was covered by multiple news outlets on the day of release, including Pitchfork,[2] Polygon,[4] Variety,[3] and others. Jose Canseco tweeted his appreciation of the album, gaining over 480 likes (shown below, left). Twitter user @dickfundy tweeted it was the best movie he'd seen in a long time (shown below, right).
