About

Uh Oh, Boner Alert is a lyric from The Lonely Island song "Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde" sung by Rihanna. The song was released in May 2011 and the lyric clip became a viral original sound on TikTok around June 2020, used in lip-dub videos about things both ironic and authentic that turn the user on.

Origin

On May 12th, 2011, The Lonely Island released the song and music video "Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde" featuring Rihanna. The music video depicts Rihanna and Andy Samberg as Shy Ronnie robbing a bank, but Ronnie is too shy to say anything. Around the 1:30-minute mark, Rihanna sings for him to imagine everyone naked then says, "uh oh, boner alert," as the request turns Ronnie on (shown below). The YouTube[1] upload gained over 71 million views in 11 years.



Spread

The audio clip of Rihanna singing "Uh oh, boner alert," became popularized on TikTok in June 2020, the official original sound garnering over 100,000 uses in two years. The most prominent videos are lip dubs and skits about both ironic and legitimate things that turn people on. For example, on June 14th, 2020, TikToker[2] @sutherlandphys posted a video about fractions reducing to whole numbers using the audio, gaining over 4 million views in two years (shown below, left). On June 27th, TikToker[3] @lizzykhang posted a video using the audio where someone runs their hand up her thigh, gaining over 17 million views in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).

The sound remained prevalent over the following years in similar videos. On September 15th, 2021, TikToker[4] @kimpossible1203 posted a video using the sound, gaining over 6.3 million views in nine months (shown below).

On June 9th, 2022, TikToker[5] @artsukown posted a video using the audio to make a joke about pansexuality, gaining over 2.6 million views in a week (shown below).
