In the coming days, the controversial rant was reported on by several news sites, including Jezebel,[4] UpRoxx,[5] New York Daily News[6] and The Washington Post.[7] On July 4th, Sirius XM fired Cumia from the show in the wake of the controversy.

"SiriusXM has terminated its relationship with Anthony Cumia of the Opie & Anthony channel. The decision was made, and Cumia informed, late Thursday, July 3, after careful consideration of his racially charged and hate-filled remarks on social media. Those remarks and postings are abhorrent to SiriusXM, and his behavior is wholly inconsistent with what SiriusXM represents."

Anthony Cumia's Domestic Abuse Video

On December 19st, 2015, Anthony Cumia was arrested on charges of domestic violence after his girlfriend Dani Golightly, a 26-year-old comedian who had previously appeared as a guest on Opie and Anthony back in 2008, contacted the authorities. The aftermath of the physical altercation, which took place at Cumia's home in Long Island, New York, was partially livestreamed on the mobile app Periscope by Golightly and later uploaded to YouTube (shown below).[15]

“Hi, I’m in Long Island, I got my hand broken, I’m waiting for police to come,” the woman in the video says. “I tried to call the police, but he turned the phone off.” The video abruptly cuts away. “Oh my God, don’t hit me!” the woman yells. “Stay away from me!”

According to the police statement provided by Golightly, the 54-year-old shock jock allegedly pinned her up against a wall, strangled her and stomped on her hand as she attempted to flee the house after a dispute. The next morning, Cumia was arraigned on a charge of second-degree strangulation and released without bail. In the following days, the video footage quickly entered circulation in the social media and entertainment news sites, including Gawker[11], Reddit[12][13] and New York Magazine,[14] among others.
