"For Christmas I Want A Dragon!" is an exploitable comic by artist Dami Lee that is based on a viral Tumblr post. The comic has received several edits that replace the third panel of the comic with various requests.

Origin

The comic is based on a text post (shown below) on Tumblr by melethninn (formerly mama-het) that was originally posted on June 1st, 2014, then reblogged from their own account on December 9th, 2015.^[1] The text post received over 109,000 likes and over 169,000 reblogs in over nine years.

On December 10th, 2015, artist Dami Lee^[2][3] used the text post to make a four-panel comic which was posted to the Tumblr account Illustrated Text Posts.^[4] The comic (shown below) received over 10,000 likes and over 8,000 reblogs in over eight years.

Spread

Over the following years, the template was used as an exploitable with either "boyfriend," "dragon" or both replaced and was particularly popular on Reddit. For example, on August 6th, 2019, Redditor enderdragonpig posted a Minecraft variation in /r/MinecraftMemes,^[5] gaining over 200 points in four years (shown below, left). On September 19th, Redditor someboiontheinternet posted a variation in /r/2meirl4meirl,^[6] gaining over 200 points in a similar time frame (shown below, right).

On December 19th, 2023, Redditor Evoxrus_ posted a Dungeons and Dragons variation in /r/dndmemes,^[7] gaining over 3,400 points in two days (shown below, left). On December 3rd, Redditor mikeschwally1 posted a variation in /r/dankmemes^[8] that gained over 2,000 points in three weeks (shown below, right).
