This limit could be just how depressed it makes you, how much your friends are willing to bear, and how far your morbid creativity goes. For example: the "trench crusade" setting currently being created by the artist Mike Franchina is one of my favorite aesthetic works, despite its currently shallow worldbuilding. It borrows a lot from warhammer in that a faithful and pious army of pseudo-christians are fighting an all-out attritional hellwar against an unspeakably horrific army of heretics and their demonic allies. Pic related is an example of a heretic worshipper. Description: "Mongrel Supplicants Worshipers of the Beast, when deemed ready, are infected by blessed parasites that fall off the Beast Lords. The parasites are full to the brim with the Lord's transformative blood, and these supplicants then begin their change into misshapen horrors, and are granted the Voice of the Beast, which they howl into the sky in adoration." I feel like the people at my University's dnd club would find this too much. I still want to put it in though. I'm thinking about basing a game in this setting, maybe using one of the 40k rpg books as a rulebook, just switching out some names here and there. I can't remember which one allows you to play as guardsmen.
