Swifties vs Cinepolitos refers to a series of viral videos of Taylor Swift fans, known as Swifties, stealing banners from the singer's The Eras Tour Movie in theaters in Mexico. The incident against the employees of the cinema chain Cinepolitos became a trending topic and the subject of ironic memes on TikTok and X in mid-October 2023.
Origin
On October 15th, 2023, TikTok[1] user @adriángutiérrez85 posted a video of an alleged Taylor Swift fan, swiftie, running down the stairs in Guadalajara, Mexico, carrying a promotional banner from the singer's The Eras Tour Movie. The video (shown below, left) garnered over 19 million plays and 3.2 million likes in three days. The same day, TikTok[2] user @xim.cgallardo revealed the man running with the banner was her boyfriend, who gifted her with the Swift banner (shown below, right). The video amassed more than 841,000 plays and 194,000 likes in three days.

@adriángutiérrez85's video quickly went viral online, prompting other fans of the singer to try to steal banners of the movie at Cinepolitos cinemas, across different cities in Mexico. For example, on October 16th TikTok[3] user @agcv124 shared a video of Cinepolitos workers bringing back a Taylor Swift banner (shown below, left), which amassed more than 959,000 plays and 138,000 likes in two days. On the same day, TikTok[4] user @fran.urrea10 posted a different of the unsuccessful banner theft (shown below, right), which garnered over 7 million plays and 1.3 million plays in two days.
