About

Taylor Swift Jetting Everywhere is a series of parody memes that reference the Taylor Swift private jet emissions controversy and imagine the pop artist using her private jet to travel the shortest of distances, such as going to a nearby coffee shop or restaurant. The meme concept first achieved virality following the 2022 report revealing that the singer's private jet racked up the most CO2 emissions in that year and experienced a resurgence in 2024 after Swift reportedly threatened legal action against a person tracking her flights.

Origin

On July 25th, 2022, news outlet The Tab[1] published an article titled, "The celebs who have racked up the most CO2 emissions this year using their private jets," most likely inspired by a prior discussion regarding Kylie Jenner's private jet controversy. The outlet ranked Taylor Swift at the top of the list, with her jet logging 8,293 tons of emissions in 2022.

On July 29th, 2022, X[2] / Twitter user @yslonika tweeted screenshots from the article, with the post garnering over 11,000 reposts and 45,000 likes in three days (shown below, left). Later that day, X user @BesDMarx posted the screenshots, captioning them, "taylor swift has emitted more co2 this year than an average US american does within 550 years and more than a person from india in over 4,300 years." The post (shown below, right) garnered over 49,000 reposts and 190,000 likes in three days.

Spread

Following the viral posts, memes imagining Taylor Swift using her jet every time she leaves the house, such as going for a meal or picking up coffee, garnered viral popularity in late July 2022.

For example, on July 30th, 2022, X[3] user smackcam13 made a post that received over 11,000 reposts and 185,000 likes in two years. Later that day, user @normalmadeline made a joke that garnered over 5,000 reposts and 91,000 likes in the same period (shown below, right).[4]

2024 Resurgence

On January 31st, 2024, a post by X[5] account @SwiftJetNextDay, which tracks the movement of Taylor Swift's N621MM private jet and formerly another jet sold by Swift in late January 2024, made a post about a 13-minute-long flight made by the recently sold jet on that day. The post (shown below) garnered over 22,000 reposts and 51,000 likes in 10 days.

On February 6th, The Washington Post[6] reported that Swift threatened legal action against the owner of the X account and sister accounts on other social media.

The viral spread of the news was followed by an influx of memes imagining Taylor Swift relying on her jet to travel the most minuscule of distances. For example, on February 7th, 2024, X[7] user @arianalife0 made a post that accrued over 19,000 reposts and 206,000 likes in one day (shown below).

A same-day post by X[8] user @up2anth gained over 5,000 reposts and 80,000 likes on the platform in one day (shown below).
