Teen Werewolves is an internet meme based on a popular news viral video from TV station KENS5 of San Antonio, Texas. The news report, called "Teen Werewolves", focused on groups at some San Antonio High Schools who believed themselves to be "Werewolves" (creatures that shift between man and wolf). Most of them wore things such as fangs and tails, to show their "Wolf side". Besides that, their apparel was basically standard "emo-kid" clothes.
The news report is from May 17, 2010, and the first video appeared on YouTube on May 20, 2010, from a user named “werehyenataur”. This video has grossed over one and a half million views so far.

Many YouTubers were instantly fascinated with these “Teen Werewolves”, with the video’s comments totaling over 16,000. Viewers fought over whether these “emo furries” were truthful in all their claims.
Naturally, when you have a video of a controversial topic, many response videos followed, and they can be found all over YouTube.
Example response videos:

Some users used this opportunity to make fun of these “Teen Werewolves” and uploaded comedy videos pertaining to the subject.
This user, “NewWaveification”, created a YouTube Poop of the original KENS5 News Report.

This user, “icarus313” turned the part of the “Teen Werewolves” report into a beauty commercial:

However, perhaps the most famous response to this video was a video by YouTuber “AlphaWerewolff” entitled “I HATE YOU JOSH! IM A TEEN WEREWOLF!” The video was a homemade video of a so-called “Teen Werewolf” named Evan who attacks a student at school named Josh for insulting him. He proceeds to list some of Josh’s taunts from school, and then smashes and X-Box 360 his mother gave him to “fit in”. The video was an instant hit, and it has garnered almost 400,000 views since it’s original upload on May 26, 2010. Many users debated the truthfulness of the clip; some believed it to be true, while others assumed it an attempt at trolling.

This video garnered over 5000 comments and numerous parodies, including a YouTube Poop by YouTuber “drsirsigma”

And a cartoon version by YouTuber “NGstalagmite”:

The author, on June 22, 2010, followed up with another video, this time entitled “YOU GUYS ARE COMEDIANS…NOT”. In this video, he proceeded to complain about some of the users who commented on his last video, and then threw a TV his mother gave him into a lake. At the time of this article’s creation, the video has over 10,000 views.

A YouTube Poop was also quickly made to follow this, also created by user “NewWaveification”.

The "Teen Werewolves" video peaked in population around late May/Early June 2010. This Google Insights chart shows just how popular the search term "teen werewolf" was around this time.

The "Teen Werewolves" also appeared on other websites, such as Kotaku and Gawker.
