About
'Texts From My Boss' Parodies refers to doctored text messages posted by people skewering imagined conversations with their employer. After several legitimate text messages showing a boss being rude or demanding to their employee went viral on Twitter, users parodied the format by inventing more humorous conversations between themselves and their boss.
Origin
In October of 2021, widespread striking workers[1] led to an increase of discussion about relations between workers and their employers on social media. On October 17th, 2021, after several people posted conversations they'd had with their employer that showed the employer to be rude and unreasonable, Twitter user @3vanSutton[2] compiled them in a tweet that used Mocking SpongeBob text to parrot the No One Wants To Work meme. The tweet gained over 48,000 retweets and 330,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
After @3vanSutton's tweet grew popular, other Twitter users began fabricating humorous conversations between themselves and their employer. For example, user @ohwormgod[3] posted a conversation showing themselves and their boss conversing in old English, gaining over 1,500 retweets and 19,000 likes (shown below, left). User @aanand[4] posted a parody featuring dialogue between The Boss and Naked Snake from Metal Gear Solid 3, gaining over 40 retweets and 250 likes (shown below, right).
