Origin

On February 8th, 2016, YouTuber^[1] DashieGames posted a video playing Super Mario Maker. During the game's title screen, Dashie taps each letter of the game's title, causing them to do different things. When he clicks the "I" a bird appears and he says "That fucking bird that I hate." The game then repeats him saying the line multiple times, shocking Dashie. The video gained over 2.7 million views in eight years (shown below).

On January 23rd, 2023, YouTuber^[2] SpongeBobFan37 posted an isolated version of the clip, garnering over 969,000 views in a year.

Spread

The video and audio clip of Dashie reacting became the subject of memes throughout 2023. On February 14th, 2023, YouTuber^[3] Setho posted an animation titled "that spamton that I hate" using the clip, garnering over 400,000 views in a year (shown below). In march, several X^[4][5][6] users posted memes using the phrase over images of various birds. On April 4th, YouTuber^[7] Blopp posted an animation that gained over 189,000 views in 10 months (shown below, right).

On September 8th, X^[8] user @DeadLineSMB posted a meme using the phrase "nintendo: that fuckin bird that i hate" over an image of the WarioWare character Pyoro, referencing the leaker Pyoro, garnering over 14,000 likes in five months (shown below).
