About

"That'll be $350" is a catchphrase used alongside an image of the League of Legends coach Neace posing in front of a camera with his hands folded whenever something obvious about the game is pointed out, like how pressing B lets the player recall. The price for the seemingly mundane advice stems from the controversy surrounding the cost of Neace's private coaching sessions and is used as a punchline for the joke.

Origin

Talk of Neace's coaching session prices date back to at least 2021, when the eSport organization Excel's assistant Coach Yi Wei, otherwise known as Nelson criticized the price in a tweet of his, which at the time was $300 for private sessions.[1] Neace responded to the criticism by saying: I don't set my prices, my customers do.[2]

After the initial tweet, the controversy regarding Neace's pricing was largery kept alive by the streamer personality and content creator Tarzaned, who often brought up Neace during his streams throughout 2022.[3]

In October, a streamer by the name of ChaseShaco made a tweet[4] saying "Stealth champs like shaco are strong because enemies cannot see them", using a photo of Neace from his coaching website. The tweet was one of the first instances of Neace's portrait being used as a meme. The catchphrase "That'll be $350" was included in some tweets featuring the image.

Spread

Some profilic streamers and eSports organizations picked up the meme, often in reference to the League of Legends World Championship 2022 event. One instance of the meme being used was when the Korean team DRX went up against the reigning World Champion team EDward Gaming and reverse swept their opponent. In the second game of the series, DRX lost an otherwise won game because the enemy inhibitor respawned before Deft could end the game, to which GenG, another Korean team tweeted:[5] ".@DRXGlobal You have to destroy the inhibitor before you can destroy the nexus."
