Reginald Skulinski Eating or Reginald Skulinski Disappointed, also known as Monster House Stare Meme refers to memes based on a scene from the 2006 animated movie Monster House in whcih the character Reginald "Skull" Skulinski begins running out of the arcade and restaurant where he works, wretches, turns back around, then takes and eats something held by one of the film's protagonists before running away again.

The scene was first popularized as a meme in early 2018 on sites like YouTube and TikTok. It was further popularized as an image macro and reaction image format on sites including X / Twitter, Instagram and Facebook in April 2026, in which a still of Reginald's face staring seriously taken from the scene is used to represent feelings of disappointment, dread or concern.

Origin

Reginald "Skull" Skulinski is one of the protagonists in the 2006 film Monster House. In one scene at the arcade and pizza restaurant that he works at, after giving the other protagonists some important information regarding the monster house, he starts leaving the restaurant. He then wretches, turns around, snatches food from one of the characters and eats it quickly while staring at them before once again leaving.^[1]

On July 28th, 2018, YouTuber^[2] batty posted an earrape edit of the scene, garnering over 73,000 views in eight years. This is one of the earliest known meme edits of the scene.

The Monster House scene with Reginald Skulinski continued to inspire memes in the late 2010s throughout the 2020s.

On August 27th, 2021, YouTuber^[3] BAP posted a meme edit that makes it look like Reginald picks up and eats a doll of the character Rem from Re:Zero, gaining over 436,000 views in five years.

On January 30th, 2023, TikToker^[4] @trainwrecktom posted the original clip captioned, "Oscar worthy performance by Reginald 'Skull' Skulinski," gaining over 800,000 views in three years.

On June 5th, 2024, TikToker^[5] @hagksji posted a version of the meme that references eating a friend's hamster before leaving their house, garnering over 340,000 views in two years.

Reginald Disappointed Reaction Image Memes

A reaction image version of the meme, which uses a still of Reginald Skulinski's face mid-chew, started becoming increasingly popularized between 2025 and 2026. Usually, the face is used to express disappointment, frustration or a feeling of dread.

One of the earliest examples was posted by Facebook^[6] user Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya on July 29th, 2025, sharing an image of the face under the caption, "A person who was in grade 1 when I was in grade 12 is completing high school this year," gaining over 2,100 reactions in nine months.

On March 8th, 2026, X^[7] user @Ib_ra_himm posted the meme under an imagined dialogue between a doctor and a patient, where the patient is confused about how long they have left to live when the doctor says "five," garnering over 45,000 likes in a month.

The meme was reposted by Instagram^[8] user todayyearsold on April 9th, gaining over 163,000 likes in two weeks.

On April 23rd, X^[9] user @IfeanyiEmm34386 posted a version of the meme using an AI-recreated version of the image captioned, "Mom: honey, I cleaned your room and also threw away a strange piece of paper with 12 English words on it," garnering over 52,000 likes in a day. The meme is a reference to cryptocurrency, the joke being that the paper had their crypto wallet password written on it.
