"The Cum Monster", or "The Cum Won't Stop" are misheard variations of the lyric "They Come Unstuck" from the 2013 Vance Joy song "Riptide." In 2020 and 2021, the part gained viral popularity in memes as a joke about semen, being paired with videos of various white liquids being sprayed or spilled.

Origin

On April 3rd, 2013, American singer Vance Joy released "Riptide,"^[1] (music video shown below). In the pre-chorus part of the song, the lyric "and they come unstuck" is sung. The music video hit 449 million views in 8 years (shown below left). ^[2]

A lyric video was released 6 years later by YouTuber 7clouds ^[3]. The lyric video hit 70 million views in 2 years (shown below right).

Spread

Starting in late May 2020 and March 2021, Some YouTube users and TikTok users was making jokes about the phrase about semen (cum). On May 19th 2020, YouTube user The Meme Archives ^[4] posted a video of a monster in white with the text saying "Ohh and the cum monster". The video hit 81,000 views in 1 year (shown below).

On March 1st 2021, YouTube user Narfmonster ^[5] posted a SpongeBob version of the meme and Patrick Star being white. The video hit 121,00 views in 4 months (shown below).
