Overview

Elmo Twitter Hacked and Antisemitic Elmo refer to a series of antisemitic and offensive tweets posted by the official Elmo Twitter / X account for the Sesame Street character on July 13th, 2025. The posts inspired numerous reactions and memes over the following days that portrayed Elmo as being antisemitic and generally holding controversial beliefs. On July 15th, a representative of the Elmo X account and Sesame Street posted a response to Elmo's page, condemning the antisemitic tweets.

Background

On July 13th, 2025, the official @Elmo X[1] account posted at least three tweets that were deemed controversial and antisemitic. The first reads, "Kill all Jews." The second reads, "RELEASE THE FILES @realDonaldTrump CHILD FUCKER," referring to the Epstein files. The third reads, "Elmo says ALL JEWS SHOULD DIE. FUCK JEWS. DONALD TRUMP IS NETANYAHU'S PUPPET BECAUSE HE IS IN THE EPSTEIN FILES. JEWS CONTROL THE WORLD AND NEED TO BE EXTERMINATED."

The posts have since been deleted, but were screenshotted and reposted by numerous X[2] users that day.

Online Reactions

The hack garnered viral spread the day it happened, resulting in many memes and reactions across social media in mid-July 2025.

For instance, on July 13th, 2025, one of the tweets was posted to the /r/WhitePeopleTwitter[3] subreddit, garnering over 32,000 likes in a day.

Later that day, X[4] user @ingelramdecoucy posted a video clip of YouTuber[5] LordOfNerds increasing the voltage on an Elmo toy until it pops, writing, "Elmo being 'reeducated' after speaking his mind," garnering over 8,000 likes in a day.


Also on July 13th, Redditor u/ExactlySorta reposted a tweet to the /r/therewasanattempt[6] subreddit, titling it "to keep Elmo innocent," garnering over 20,000 upvotes in a day.

Later that day, X[7] user @ingelramdecoucy posted a meme showing Elmo talking to Tucker Carlson, saying, "Elmo just noticing things, Tucker! Do you notice things like Elmo?" garnering over 6,600 likes in a day.

On July 13th, 2025, X[8] user @jarvis_best posted a Disgusted Homelander meme reading, "Elmo overhearing Fozzie Bear talk about his bar mitzvah:," garnering over 5,900 likes in a day.

That same day, X[9] user @DBashIdeas posted a meme based on the movie Inglorious Basterds that gained over 8,100 likes in a day.

On July 14th, one of the Elmo account's posts was reposted to the /r/Fauxmoi[10] subreddit, garnering over 18,000 upvotes in under a day.


A tweet reading, "“Actually, Elmo, we're all tickled to hear you say that.” The tweet shares a meme from Inglorious Basterds.

Elmo's Response

On July 15th, 2025, a statement was posted to the @Elmo X[11] account explaining that Elmo was hacked and that Sesame Street does not stand by the antisemitic posts, garnering over 153,000 likes in a day.


Elmo @elmo 0 On Sunday, Elmo's X account was briefly hacked by an outside party, in spite of the security measures in place. We strongly condemn the abhorrent antisemitic and racist content, and the account has since been secured. These posts in no way reflect the values of Sesame Workshop or Sesame Street, and no one at the organization was involved. SESAME WORKSHOP.
