About
"The Son Tempts Anakin", or "What if I could show you the future?" is an exploitable comic consisting at its base, of two frames from Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 3, episode 17, "Ghosts of Mortis", in which The Son asks Anakin the titular "What if I could show you"/"the future?", followed by the punch line image, and usually ended with a frame of Anakin holding his head, asking for him to stop.
Origin
The meme was originally posted to the subreddit PrequelMemes by Reddit user Draezeth, with the punch line being Luke and Leia's infamous kiss. It rapidly gained attention for its high flexibility and potential for dissing the Sequel trilogy. The timing was ideal, arriving so soon after the release of The Last Jedi, when criticism was flying high, and when the rivalry between the subreddit of origin and SequelMemes was at its most intense.
Spread
The meme caught on immediately, with several child memes being added to the subreddit before the day was done. Punch Lines most often included basic jabs at the Sequel movies as a whole, highly criticized moments from them, or other memes such as Ben Swolo . Mutations also began to crop up quickly, containing the influences of other popular memes on the subreddit.
