About

Therapy Frog/Fascinated Frog is an advice animal meme featuring a whited lipped tree frog (?) sitting at an ominously-lit desk.

Origin

On October 27, 2011, user 000133 on Chinese Forum bbs.voc.com.cn/ published a string of photos[1]. One of which was 7efcbd21jw1dmdtejgzlnj.jpg, a photo of a frog clasping their hands on a desk in a dim room.

Exactly two months later, on December 27, Robert Anderson posted the same image on his Google Plus [2]. The image, gp112.png, now had advice animal text. As of April 13, 2012, this image has +1'd by 180 people and reshared by 166 people.

Spread

The next day, the picture had been spread and posted on iwastesomuchtime.com[3], themetapicture.com[4], and other sites. Tumblr user nyarlathothep added a second frame to the image. His post was reblogged 61 times.

On April 13, 2012, Oafah uploaded the image to Quickmeme[5] as an Advice Animal dubbed "Fascinated Frog." In these memes, the frog talks sarcastically, though it is subtle and you cannot quite tell if he is really interested or just a jerk. The first line revolves around the frog rephrasing a question and the second line featuring a snarky phrase, like "Oh, do go on," "How interesting," or "Intriguing…" On April 13 and 14, the image popped up in Quickmeme's top ten and the the first Fascinated Frog was featured.
