About
Tranny Semen is a transphobic catchphrase repeatedly used by Twitter user Joey Mannarino (@JoeyMannarinoUS) in early 2023 to describe Bud Light beer amid the 2023 Bud Light Dylan Mulvaney controversy that made anti-LGBTQ+ internet users angry and boycott the beverage. Mannarino was among those upset by the partnership and attempted to joke that "tranny semen" was a main ingredient in Budweiser products, using the crude nickname to fuel the Bud Light boycott. His use of the nickname garnered criticism due to the absurdity of the statement, mainly criticized by LGBTQ+ allies and trans internet users online. It was then used ironically by those that disagreed with Mannarino, surfacing en masse after a tweet of his that proclaimed Chick-fil-A would "start putting tranny semen in the frosted lemonade" after the company announced it was hiring a VP of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in late May 2023.
Origin
On April 15th, 2023, Twitter[1] user @JoeyMannarinoUS quote retweeted a tweet from the New York Post about Donald Trump Jr. calling for an end to the "Bud Light boycott." @JoeyMannarinoUS wrote, "I don’t care who tells me to end the boycott, I will not drink the tranny semen," gaining over 220 likes in one month (shown below, left). On that day, he used "tranny semen" two more times. For instance, he tweeted[2] a picture of Bud Light cans in a store's fridge, writing, "Plenty of tranny semen on the shelf at the local corner store…" The tweet gained roughly 400 likes in one month (shown below, right).
Although the aforementioned tweet[2] only gained about 400 likes, it received over 4 million views. This was due to a quote retweet sent by Twitter[3] user @oncloud_e on April 21st, 2023, who captioned @JoeyMannarinoUS's tweet[2] with, "that's ridiculous, it would take like 50 trannies just to fill one of those cans," gaining roughly 11,900 likes in one month (shown below).
Spread
Soon after @oncloud_e's QRT,[3] more discourse about @JoeyMannarinoUS's tweet[2] surfaced via replies and other QRTs. For instance, on April 22nd, 2023, Twitter[4] user and streamer Vaush replied saying, "You are both mentally ill and horny," gaining roughly 11,300 likes in one month (shown below, left). On April 23rd, Twitter[5] user @KatyMontgomerie then criticized @JoeyMannarinoUS in a QRT that gained roughly 1,700 likes in one month (shown below, right).
@JoeyMannarinoUS' "Tranny Semen Chick-fil-A" Tweet
On May 29th, 2023, Twitter[6] user @JoeyMannarinoUS tweeted that "Chick-Fil-A just hired a VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion," and continued to write, "I don’t want to have to boycott. Are we going to have to boycott?" @JoeyMannarinoUS then replied with another tweet[7] that linked to the Chick-fil-A website,[8] stating, "It’s only a matter of time until they start putting tranny semen in the frosted lemonade at this point." The tweet received roughly 1,600 likes in one day (shown below).
On May 30th, 2023, Twitter[9] user @Esqueer_ captioned a screenshot of @JoeyMannarinoUS' tweet, writing, "Transphobia is literal brain worms," gaining roughly 28,300 likes in less than a day (shown below, left). Soon after, Twitter[10] user and streamer HasanAbi posted a similar tweet, reading, "just normal stuff here," gaining roughly 4,800 likes in less than a day (shown below, right).
The Chick-fil-A tweet inspired more viral reactions on Twitter[11][12] going into the end of May 2023. For instance, many online referenced The Writer's Barely-Disguised Fetish meme to portray @JoeyMannarinoUS as someone who secretly enjoyed "tranny semen."
