Uncle Ji Paani Pila Dijiye is a memorable catchphrase from Indian Instagram creators @Shahanishamarthlifevlog. The family consists of a father, a mother, and a young boy and girl who create video skits. In early 2023, @Shahanishamarthlifevlog's videos began going viral on Instagram Reels, with audiences commenting on the young boy's drawling and shrill manner of speaking. Jokes about the boy "lagging" or being a "999 ping" began to be shared on meme pages in June 2023, with audiences split between finding his cadence amusing and finding it irritating.
Origin
On August 5th, 2022, Instagram page @Shahanishamarthlifevlog began posting short skits with moral messages.[1] Early posts and videos indicate that the family consists of a young boy and a young girl, both below the age of 10, and a young father and mother.
On February 7th, 2023, Shahanishamarthlifevlog posted a video[2] where the young boy begs for some "paani" or water from the father, but is mocked before the mother intervenes. The video contains the dialogue, "pani pani pani" and "uncle ji, paani pila di jiye." The video, which gathered over 50,000 views and 3,400 likes, marks the start of a repeating trend of water bottles featuring in Shahanishamarthlifevlog's content.
Spread
Shahanishamarthlifevlog videos often incorporate simple visual effects such as CGI snakes and glowing light. On March 27th, 2023, Shahanishamarthlifevlog posted a video[3] that contained the repeating "paani" and purple water bottle theme, as well as a CGI snake and glowing filters. The video gathered over 100,000 views and 5,600 likes in three months (seen below, left). A video[4] uploaded on April 29th also shows the use of these themes and effects, gathering over 170,000 plays and 8,000 likes in two months (seen below, right).
In June 2023, various Instagram pages began posting memes about the young boy featured in the videos. On June 5th, Instagram[5] page @aparashit posted a meme featuring the young boy. The caption translates to, "even if the old man interrupts me, I never want this boy to interrupt me." The post gathered over 5,300 likes in two weeks (seen below, left). On June 12th, @aparashit[6] posted another meme featuring the boy, gathering over 5,300 likes on a carousel post (seen below, right).
On July 17th, Instagram[7] page @baekoof posted a meme featuring clips from @Shahanishamarthlifevlog's page, gathering over 91,000 likes in four days (seen below).
