Volo is a merchant character in the 2022 video game Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Due to his good looks and charming demeanor, he quickly became a fan favorite in the game, similar to other Nintendo characters like Prince Sidon and Peony. In early 2022, Volo became the subject of various memes and fan art depictions across several platforms.

Origin

Volo first appeared in the December 15th, 2021, "New Faces" trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus (shown below).

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, released January 28th, 2022, he serves as a merchant who appears at various points in the main story to guide, battle and sell goods to the player.

Spread

Volo quickly became a fan favorite after he appeared in the December 2021 trailer. Fans were quick to speculate how he may be an ancestor of Cynthia due to their similar looks (example by fansite PLDHnet^[1] shown below, left). User @PossiblyMori^[2] posted a joke about how the entire Pokémon community was into the character after the reveal (shown below, right).

Volo also generated a significant amount of fan art art in the weeks since his reveal. For example, On January 26th, 2022, user @ikaNyai^[3] posted art that gained over 75 retweets and 170 likes in five days (shown below, left). User @Shuruzy^[4] posted art on January 30th, that gained over 25 retweets and 70 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
